Without institutions (to uphold copyrights, etc.) that protect one’s work, there’d be little motivation to create them when some adolescent with an inflated sense of entitlement decides to pass your work on to friends and even complete strangers without compensation. And once again, you fail to offer any proof that such protections equal extortion. No matter how you try to rationalize your advocacy of theft, it’s still theft.

I never said duplication of “virtual memory” (try digital media) was theft. What IS theft is the DISTRIBUTION of digital media without the author’s consent. Sorry, but your attempt to create a valid analogy with the “fire” argument is an epic failure. A vaIid analogy: you reproduce a book without the publisher’s permission (whether you sell it or give it away), that too would be an infringement of the copyright. It’s NOT your property to begin with. All you have is a right for exclusive use.
